The New Lheidli T’enneh Childcare Centre

Ground was officially broken on the new Lheidli T’enneh childcare centre, in partnership with The Exploration Place. Museum staff were honoured to participate in a ground blessing ceremony led by Elder Darlene McIntosh, witnessed by Chief Dolleen Logan, Lheidli T’enneh Councillors and members, IDL Projects and Archer CRM.

The archaeological assessment has also begun on the centre’s future site in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park which is the original village site of Lheidli. The assessment involves inspection and testing below the site’s surface, defining the extent of archaeological artifacts and any impacts to the area from construction. Members of both the Lheidli T’enneh and the Museum team were honoured to participate in the dig.

The childcare centre is slated to open in 2022. It will offer 75 essential, much-needed, culturally safe childcare spaces for families in Prince George.
